Sourcing Approach
Direct sourcing regions include Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Katihar, Saharsa, Supaul and other north Bihar production districts.
Quality Focus
Lots are graded for pop diameter, moisture, water activity, whiteness, purity and breakage, with destination testing for heavy metals, mycotoxins and residues.
Packaging & Supply
5/10 kg lined double-wall cartons; 1/5/10 kg vacuum or nitrogen-flushed pouches; 20–500 g retail packs; and 100–500 g jars or tubs. FIBCs are not recommended.
Origin
India — principally the Mithila and north Bihar production belt, with GI-authorised supply available by contract.
Seasonality
Main seed harvest begins around August and can continue into November; peak new-crop availability runs from late autumn through early spring.
Sustainability
A low-input aquatic crop integrated with wetlands and often fish culture. Producer-group sourcing, mechanised processing improvements and by-product use are prioritised.
